Energizing Economic Development

Singing River Electric is committed to economic development as an important way of improving the communities we serve. We support our local economies and work to create new jobs in two ways: building infrastructure necessary to reliably support our business and industry needs both today and tomorrow, and working aggressively to match local economic development projects with U.S. Department of Agriculture rural development loans and grants.

The April 2024 Employee Spotlight is Tom Davis!

Tom Davis’s roots at Singing River Electric run deep. His 36 years of service began shortly after graduating from Mississippi State University when he joined SRE as a project engineer. As a college student, Tom participated in SRE’s co-op program where he spent multiple semesters working in engineering – an opportunity he learned about from his grandfather, Bo Gambles, who retired from SRE after 42 years of service.

“My grandpa worked hard at Singing River and showed me there are opportunities for longevity within a workplace. I knew Singing River was a great company to work for, and I knew I could have a successful career here.”

Tom values his involvement in substation work; being part of a project that will last over 50 years is something not many people get to experience. Another part of his role that Tom finds interesting is mapping. SRE’s mapping system is more than getting from point A to point B – it touches almost every department in some fashion and is an integral part of daily operations.

Lucedale is Tom’s hometown, and he loves giving back and improving the place he lives, goes to church, and has built relationships in. To Tom, SRE feels like friendship and has become a part of his family.

To the Singing River Electric members, Tom says, “Being an active member in the cooperative is vital due to your voice directly shaping the future of the cooperative.”

Outside of SRE, Tom is an avid fisherman and well known for his community involvement, especially cooking corn dogs for community events.
