Students role play a customer service conversation with SRE employees at P2P Career Fair

Pathways 2 Possibilities

Have you ever wondered what it is like to work in high places? Local eighth graders from eight south Mississippi counties get first-hand knowledge and on-the-job training to be a lineman, dispatcher, member services representative and so much more at the Pathways 2 Possibilities interactive, hands-on career expo for 8th graders held each year in November. The event is open to students in public, private and home schools, as well as at-risk youth, ages 16-24.

“Our involvement has grown over the years we have participated,” said Singing River Electric manager of member services and facilities Nick DeAngelo. “We challenge ourselves as a committee each year to see how we can improve the interactive stations and really give these students a feel for what it is like to be on the job.”

Singing River Electric has helped sponsor and participated in the fair since its inception in November 2013. Employees join others from Chevron, Coast Electric, Blossman Gas and Mississippi Power Company to form the World of Energy.  In addition to Energy, students can see interactive exhibits from 18 other pathways including health care, hospitality, marine science, manufacturing, TV broadcasting, and more.
