In 2013, Singing River Electric assisted the George County Board of Supervisors to receive a $1.3M USDA Rural Development Loan to make land and infrastructure improvements to attract a pellet plant. On Monday, Oct. 21, 2019, they broke ground on the new Enviva wood pellet mill.
The Enviva plant located in George County is a $140 million investment, and will create 3-400 construction and 90 permanent positions. The facility plans to produce upwards of 700,000 tons of wood pellets, has already sold every ton they will produce for several decades and is the largest wood pellet mill in the world.
