Category 2 Hurricane Zeta left a mess in its wake throughout Singing River Electric’s service area. We have 62,781 meters without power which represents 82% of the entire service area. Servicemen inspecting our lines found numerous trees on lines, many broken poles, and of course, lines down all over. Several George County substations and one Jackson County substation do not have transmission and cannot send power to our lines until those transmission lines are repaired.
Crews will be working in all areas today and will continue to make damage assessments. Two Mississippi electric cooperatives are sending crews today, and we have contract line crews and right-of-way crews working alongside our linemen as well. This will be a multi-day restoration process.
We know being without power is hard, and we commit to working as quickly and safely as possible until every SRE member has power.
Post-hurricane reminders:
- Download Singing River Electric’s SmartHub app to report power outages quickly and to view a live outage map. Outages can also be reported by calling 228-497-1313 or 601-947-4211.
- Make a plan for family members who rely on electric medical equipment or have other special needs during this Hurricane Zeta outage.
- Treat all downed power lines as energized. Beware of lines hidden by debris or in trees.
- Do not connect a generator directly to your home’s wiring; this can energize power lines and put our linemen at risk. Also, do not operate a generator while standing in wet conditions or use in an enclosed area.
