Singing River Federal Credit Union has partnered with Cooperative Energy and Singing River Electric to bring an Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station to Lucedale. National Drive Electric Week is September 23 – October 2 and the official ribbon-cutting event will be held on Wednesday, September 28th, beginning at 10 am, at the Singing River Federal Credit Union Lucedale branch at 201 Scott Road.
EVs are similar to regular vehicles, except they plug into the electric power grid to refuel. There are generally two types of EVs: battery powered and plug-in hybrids. This newly built Level 2 charging station is up to five times faster than a standard Level 1 station providing 10-20 miles of range per charging hour.
This newly built Level 2 charging station will be officially opened to the public and attendees will be able to see first-hand the Cooperative Energy electric vehicles and talk with EV experts to discuss the technology and benefits of driving electric. Walt Massey Automotive has also partnered with SRFCU to bring EVs to the event.
“This EV charging station will be offered at no cost to our community,” said Jerica Hudson, VP Marketing & Communications of Singing River Federal Credit Union. “It will encourage travelers to stop in Lucedale to charge electric vehicles between Hattiesburg and Mobile. We are excited about this partnership to help grow Lucedale in a new and innovative way.”
Electric vehicles may not be for everyone, but they are an exciting and fun option. By switching to an EV, you can save money annually on fuel costs and EVs have fewer moving parts so you can save on maintenance too. They are also fun to drive with plenty of acceleration and storage.
