Cost-of-Service Study Leads to Rate Change

Many appliances being used at different times to show low demand.

Singing River Electric recently completed an independent cost-of-service study to analyze the costs of delivering electricity to residential, commercial, & industrial members.
Purchasing wholesale power from Cooperative Energy accounts for nearly 70% of every dollar spent. Over the last five years, these costs increased by more than 17%, too significant to be absorbed.
In October 2026, the demand portion of residential & small general service single-phase rates will be adjusted. The cost-of-service study showed an average residential member uses 1,205 kWh & has 7 kW of demand; the $1 demand charge increase will raise average residential bills by about 4% (or $7). Small general service three-phase rates will also be adjusted.
We understand that any rate increase affects your household budget. As a member-owned cooperative, we’re focused on maintaining a reliable system & serving our members responsibly.
