FABLAB Jackson County students build solar stations at entrepreneur camp

Students attending FABLAB Jackson County summer camps are experiencing a unique opportunity—building solar stations.

A $2,500 Neighbors Helping Neighbors Community Grant from Singing River Electric purchased 50 reusable solar kits which can be built and then taken apart for future students to construct. The solar kits can power external devices through a USB port, and the digital voltmeter and solar panel allow students to record solar energy.

“We have 32 camps this summer that promote STEAM skills and activities,” explains John Mundy, lead STEAM instructional specialist for FABLAB Jackson County. “These solar chargers allow us to explore alternative energy options.”
