Austin Baldwin of St. Martin High School, Kenley Cochran of Perry Central High School, Noah Moran of Ocean Springs High School, and Morgan Rich of East Central High School represented Singing River Electric at the Electric Cooperatives of Mississippi Youth Leadership Workshop in Jackson held February 22-24, 2017.
While visiting Jackson, these young leaders participated in team-building exercises, discussed solutions to current issues facing young people and visited with their state legislators. In June, the students will travel to Washington D.C. for the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s (NRECA) Youth Tour to visit many of our nation’s historic landmarks and meet with Mississippi’s senators and representatives.
“These four students are already leaders in their schools and can use this opportunity to further develop their leadership skills while interacting with students from all over Mississippi,” said Singing River Electric General Manager and CEO Mike Smith.
To qualify for Singing River Electric’s program, students were required to have a 3.0 grade average, be involved in extra-curricular activities and reside in Singing River Electric’s service area. After being selected by their schools, the students participated in a one-day Cooperative University and interviews at the cooperative’s Lucedale office.
