Hurricane Isaias Restoration

Category 3 Hurricane Isaias brought tropical storm-force winds and rain to Singing River Electric’s service area on Friday, October 9. Our linemen battled power outages throughout the afternoon and evening and into early Saturday. They cut many trees off the power lines, picked up downed lines, and replaced poles when the force of fallen trees caused them to break.

While linemen braved the weather, our operators, dispatchers, and engineers tracked outages and kept linemen moving to the next location. Our member service representatives answered calls and responded to outage-related messages. Their work behind-the-scenes was crucial to the power restoration process.

After restoring power to all Singing River Electric members, our 19-man crew left Sunday morning, October 11, for Choctawhatchee Electric Cooperative (CHELCO), in DeFuniak Springs, Fla. CHELCO, which serves Okaloosa, Walton, Holmes, and Santa Rosa counties, had around 71,000 of their 76,000 accounts without power at the start of Hurricane Isaias storm response. Singing River Electric proudly lives out Cooperation Among Cooperatives, a powerful cooperative principle in times like these.
